First, I'd like to reinforce that Jaromir Jagr truly is one of the all time greats, and his performance at the outdoor game vs the New York Rangers further displayed his eternal awesomeness. 2 assists and plus 1 in a game where his team got outscored 7 to 3. Jagr is a true professional and his veteran, savvy play showed that he's still got it. He won't get you with his feet, but he'll get you with his head. He's putting together a fantastic season for a 41(!!) year old. 16 goals, 44 points and plus 20 in 53 games this year. Not to mention the wicked mullet he used to have.. Kudos Jagr, Kudos.
Randoms-
1) Patrice Bergeron is 59.9% in the dot. Vladimir Sobotka? 61.4%. Antoine Vermette has won the most draws on the PK with 108.
2) There's a lot of talent coming into this league. Just look at the crop of rookies. Forwards like MacKinnon, Hertl, Johnson, Nichushkin, Barkov and more.
3) What's more impressive this year is the group of defensemen. At the top of the rookie D scoring race are Torey Krug and Eric Gelinas, both providing some significant offensive punch from the blue line for their individual teams. Maatta, Jones, Trouba, Murray, DeKeyser and Lindholm -among others- are all having fabulous rookie seasons.
4) For some reason, I want Steve Mason to succeed. I don't know why. It's maddening to see a goaltender put up such inconsistent numbers.. He shows flashes of talent, but just hasn't put together the consistency. He's progressing, but goalies take time. At least no matter how bad Mason plays, he'll still be better than Dubnyk!
5) Since his return to the WHL, Mathew Dumba has 6 points in 5 games on Portland team with the likes of Derrick Pouliot, Nic Petan, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Taylor Leier, Brendan Leipsic and Chase De Leo. No shortage of firepower, so look for the Minnesota prospect to continue posting big offensive numbers.
