The infamous saga of Michael Del Zotto trade rumours finally came to a close today, with the New York Rangers shipping out the young rearguard to Nashville in exchange for the steady hand of Kevin Klein.
Klein, 29, is a solid but unspectacular defender. He's really all you can ask for without asking too much, an experienced guy who handles fairly tough minutes with composure. I like the way Klein's game fits in with the Rangers D core of Girardi, Staal and McDonagh.
Nashville picks up a player in Del Zotto who has had his fair share of struggles with consistency in both ends of the ice, but he's 23 and possess some serious offensive flair from the back end. Del Zotto joins a stellar group of players including Shea Weber, Roman Josi and Seth Jones. Nashville has an incredible pipeline on the back end, surely one of the envy's of the league. This trade benefits both teams in a way, but I think Nashville wins in terms of picking up raw skill and upside.
